Mission and Responsibilities

The Director of Chowan County Board of Elections performs technical and administrative work directing voter registration, the process of voting, and election activities for Chowan County and the municipality within the county boundaries. The Director, on at least two occasions during the year, has a public awareness program to help educate the public on election matters. This includes a countywide voter drive to promote new voter registration interest.

Positions in the Elections Department include the Director of Elections and a part-time assistant. This office has a three-person board. These board members are appointed by the State Board of Elections for a two-year term with possible reappointment. No more than two members of the board can belong to the same political party.
